TRADITIONAL NEPALESE FOOD

DAL BHAT

This is the staple dish of Nepal and is found throughout the country in various forms depending on the region. Its basic form consists of steamed rice and a lentil soup called dal. It is commonly served with either a green seasonal vegetable curry or meat (chicken, fish or mutton) curry, chutney and papad. There are several types of dal including red, yellow, green, black and mixed dal and all of these are rich in protein. Dal bhat is eaten twice a day at approximately 10am and 8pm,

MOMOS

Momos are originally from Tibet. People use different type of ingredients like onion. garlic, ginger, cabbage and curry powder. You can also find meat momos too with chicken, mutton or buff meat. Momos are commonly served with a spicy chutney and are a delicious starter dish (be aware though that they usually take at least 30 minutes).

PAKODAS

Originally from India, pakodas are a fried snack that are served with chutney. They consist of vegetables, chickpea flour and spices.. Like momos, pakodas are a tasty starter dish which can be shared among a group of people.

SEL ROTI

This is a ring shaped fried rice doughnut. It is made and eaten only on special occasions such as festivals, weddings and important pujas.

CHAPATI/ROTI

Chapati and roll are dry flatbreads, Chapati is the common name in India while roti is the Nepall name

MASALA TEA

This tea is made with different spices such as cardamom, ginger, cloves, black pepper, cinnamon and bay leaves which are added to the tea leaves. You can have masala with or without milk.

MILK TEA

This tea made by using only tea leaves and milk.NEPALI SNACKS (KHAJA) Samosas, pakodas, momos chaat, beaten rice with tea or chowmein are the most common snacks

TRADITIONAL DESSERTS

There are not many desserts in the Nepall kitchen but those that are use milk and its derivatives as a key ingredient Milk balls (rasbor) are made from milk sugar and vinegar and are served cold. Rice pudding (kheer) is another traditional dessert.
